“Religious Dimensions of Conflicts in the Mediterranean”, by Dominique Avon

On Wednesday 14 October 2026 at 5 pm, Dominique Avon, director of studies at the École pratique des hautes études (EPHE, PSL) and a specialist in contemporary religious history, is giving the 2026-2027 inaugural lecture of the chair “Mediterranean, Religions and Societies”, which he holds. His lecture is entitled Dimensions religieuses des conflits en Méditerranée (Religious Dimensions of Conflicts in the Mediterranean).

The lecture opens the second year of the chair, whose 2026-2027 programme focuses on the religious dimension of conflicts in the Mediterranean. This French-speaking chair is hosted by the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI), a partner institution of Pluriel, and supported by the French Embassy to the Holy See and the Institut français Centre Saint-Louis (IFCSL).

Le mercredi 14 octobre 2026 à 17h, Dominique Avon, directeur d’études à l’École pratique des hautes études (EPHE, PSL) et spécialiste d’histoire religieuse contemporaine, prononce à Rome la conférence inaugurale de la chaire « Méditerranée, religions et sociétés », dont il est le titulaire. Sa conférence s’intitule « Dimensions religieuses des conflits en Méditerranée ».

Cette conférence ouvre la deuxième année de la chaire, dont le programme 2026-2027 est consacré à la dimension religieuse des conflits en Méditerranée. Francophone, la chaire est accueillie par l’Institut pontifical d’études arabes et d’islamologie (PISAI), institution partenaire de Pluriel, et soutenue par l’ambassade de France près le Saint-Siège et par l’Institut français Centre Saint-Louis (IFCSL).

يومَ الأربعاء 14 أكتوبر/تشرين الأول 2026، عند الساعة 17:00، يُلقي المؤرّخ دومينيك أفون في روما المحاضرة الافتتاحية لعام 2026-2027 لكرسي «البحر المتوسط والأديان والمجتمعات» الذي يشغله، وعنوانها «الأبعاد الدينية للنزاعات في البحر المتوسط». ودومينيك أفون مدير دراسات في المدرسة التطبيقية للدراسات العليا (EPHE) في باريس، ومتخصّص في التاريخ الديني المعاصر.

وتفتتح هذه المحاضرة السنة الثانية للكرسي، الذي يتناول برنامجه لعام 2026-2027 البعد الديني للنزاعات في البحر المتوسط. ويستضيف هذا الكرسيَّ الناطق بالفرنسية المعهد البابوي للدراسات العربية والإسلامية (PISAI)، وهو مؤسسة شريكة للمنصة الجامعية للدراسات حول الإسلام، ويحظى الكرسي بدعم سفارة فرنسا لدى الفاتيكان والمعهد الفرنسي مركز سان لويس (IFCSL).
